he main optical elements of microscopy imaging, such as lens, aperture, observing tube and shots are circular design. The assembly and designing may cause optical distortion and will make the image edge blur.If the mount image edge is the only blur part in microscopy imaging,it is caused by the mismatching between C mount and camera adapter or the designing defects.
How can a normal civil use camera get high definition microscopy image? The acquisition of microscopy image of normal digital camera requires indispensable specific camera adapter.A good camera adapter should gets following features, high transmittance, flat field compensation, low dispersion, high coaxality of inner lens, clear imaging dimension and phase distance.
Generally in choosing a camera, consumers should consider following questions:
1.Is flat field compensation available
2.Dispersion extent
3.Imaging target surface
4.Clear phase distance?
As for the first indicator, the user can judge through the comparison between the image captured by camera and the image from the eyepieces. We can compare the four corners of the captured image with the image from the eyepieces to see whether there is close or same definition, the closer definition indicates the better mount and of course the higher price.
As for the second indicator, just as the first one,if the only place required comparison is the edge of the object,or the close color edge. The closer edge indicates better mount.
As for the third indicator,we need to compare the image captured and the visual field, generally speaking, with good mount, the visual field should be within the eyepieces visual field, between 75%-95%.If the amount is less than this scope,it means relatively large multiple of the adapter. If the adapter is bigger than this scope or even black side,it indicates too small mount multiple it gets.It should not be considered the bigger visual field the better, since for normal microscope, the image part in the visual field with the best quality is concentrated in 95% area in the centre. If exceeding this scope,it will appears edge blur and outline obscure situation.
As for the fourth indicator, you can adjust the eyepieces to clear and switch to camera,if the image of the camera is clear,or by turning the micro-adjust fixture,if it is within half circle scope ,it indicates the good synchronism, otherwise it indicates bad synchronism.
The dark side in the microscopy imaging, edge blur issue analysis:
1,The microscope don’t synchronize with the camera,it can be adjusted to clear by turning the micro-adjust fixture.
2.Diaphragm for the visual field is not big enough
3.The aperture diaphragm is too big
4.The C mount is not match with the target surface of digital camera
5.The visual field of the microscope is too small.
6.The collecting lens of the microscope is eccentric.
Generally speaking, choosing professional microscopy specific camera will avoid a bigger degree of edge blur imaging effect. In the market, there are importing cameras zeiss, nikon, olympus, leica, motic, novel and domestic products such as Shendu,Tupu,JPLY.The imported products get better image quality, high image definition, higher color rendition, however with relatively high price. The domestic products get better cost performance and more friendly price.Just like CCD series products, they all adopted imported Sony sensor,it may not reach the image quality of international brands product,it will provide better price&performance balance.
The pictures shows below is the comparison between Domestic JPLY S1UC01C camera and the imported Zeiss mrc camera with the same section in Zeiss microscope. It’s pretty close performance between JPLY and Zeiss camera.
