MUNSTER, GERMANY August 20, 2012. XIMEA GmbH – developer of the CURRERA PC cameras, the world’s most powerful line of industrial “smart” cameras, and the xiQ series, the world’s smallest industrial USB 3.0 cameras – is pleased to announce Linux compatibility for its USB 3.0 camera product line.
XIMEA’s xiQ series’ (ximea.com) industrial-grade cameras now come standard with support software for systems running Linux 3.3 kernels and above, including Linux Ubuntu distribution.
“After numerous inquiries from our valued system integrators, we decided that Linux support is important to a growing segment of our USB 3.0 industrial camera customers,” says Max Larin, CEO of XIMEA. “We’re happy to comply and offer industry the first Linux-compliant USB 3.0 camera.”
Contrary to reports from competing USB 3.0 cameras, the xiQ series measures measuring just 26.4 x 26.4 x 19.1 mm or 13cm2 compared to competing solutions that require 25cm2. XIMEA achieves this compact size by designing the xiQ on a single planar rigid board, compared to multi-board and multifold flexi-rigid boards used in other solutions. xiQ series cameras also offer the lowest power consumption of any industrial USB 3.0 camera, consuming between 1W to 1.8W. Single-board construction, coupled with low power and heat generation, all help to simplify an OEM efforts to integrate board-level xiQ cameras into larger manufacturing, medical, security, and medical systems.
In addition to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed data interface that delivers up to 5 Gbps of data or the equivalent of 400 megapixels per second (Mpix/s), the xiQ includes all standard I/O and features, including opto-isolated trigger input and illuminator control output, as well as on-board non-volatile memory for user settings and custom data. xiQ series cameras include a growing variety of high-grade CMOS sensors with resolutions ranging from VGA to 4 Mpix, global shutters, frame rates up to 600 fps, and improved quantum efficiency (QE) in the visible and NIR spectral ranges. A high dynamic range (HDR) model offers maximum sensitivity with a dynamic range of up to 100 dB.
